AUSTIN, Texas – Aug. 19, 2026 – Driftwood Builders Roofing, an Austin-based roofing and exterior contractor, is contributing roofing and exterior repair work to help longtime East Austin resident Mattie Freeman remain safely in the home her family has known for generations.
Freeman’s home repair needs were highlighted through the Austin American-Statesman’s Season for Caring initiative, which connects Central Texas residents facing significant challenges with individuals, businesses and community organizations able to help.
Freeman has lived in her East Austin home for decades. As the property aged, it developed a number of repair needs, including issues involving the roof and exterior of the home.
After learning about Freeman’s situation, Driftwood Builders Roofing became involved in helping address portions of the home’s exterior repair needs, including roofing, siding and fascia work.
“Mattie has been part of this neighborhood for decades, and this is exactly the kind of situation where local businesses have an opportunity to step up,” said Nick Riley, owner of Driftwood Builders Roofing. “We work on homes throughout Austin every day. Being able to use those same crews, relationships and experience to help a longtime Austin resident means a lot to our team.”
The project is part of a broader community effort to help address Freeman’s home repair and accessibility needs.
Season for Caring, an initiative of the Austin American-Statesman, highlights Central Texas residents and nonprofit organizations in need of community support and encourages individuals and businesses to contribute services, financial assistance and other resources.
For Driftwood Builders Roofing, the project reflects the company’s broader effort to support the Central Texas community through the trade it knows best.
“We’ve been fortunate to build our business in Austin,” Riley said. “When there’s an opportunity to use what we do every day to help one of our neighbors, we want to be part of it.”
