June 02 02:58 2022

The African tech space is one that has not gained the same level of recognition as other continents, but over the past few years, there has been an emergence of disruptive thinkers bringing practical solutions across the continent.

Undoubtedly, the African tech space has caught the attention of tech enthusiasts across the world and has even been tipped to cause a humongous ripple effect across the globe in the coming decade.

There are quite a few trailblazers ensuring that the youth aren’t oblivious to the magnificent opportunities that abound in tech. A few entrepreneurs are taking things up a notch by creating tech academies, coding schools, programming boot camps, and so on, to groom the next generation of tech gurus. One of such notable individuals is the founder of ShapShap and CANs.ng – Khalil Halilu.

Khalil, a serial African entrepreneur known for his visionary moves on youth empowerment, is raising a dynamic generation of unconventional thinkers who are able to blur the lines and make intercontinental contributions among young people in tech from all over the world.

During a recent interview, Khalil stated that he is setting out to do everything he can to make sure technology brings about practical and long-lasting solutions to issues in Africa.

One of the strategies he put in motion is the creation of CANs.ng – a hub of technological expression for the up-and-coming tech enthusiasts, strategically located in Abuja, Nigeria.

More than a physical space in Maitama–Abuja, CANs.ng is a platform committed to building Africa’s next-gen tech minds. At CANs.ng, young people are empowered to become thought leaders who through innovation, will carve their names in the continental digital space. With the mindset that the ripple effect of inspiring the young ones can quickly be felt all over Africa, Khalil Halilu aims to enhance the living conditions of societies, starting with empowering the youths. This has seen him spearhead various technological upgrades and sustainable local-based solutions in a valid bid to resolve daily issues.

According to a report, Khalil Stated that Nigeria and other African economies are projected to increase shares of the global sales due to growing participation in tech solutions like e-commerce, product design, web design, app development, and so on.

For instance, OyaOya, one of Khalil’s tech projects, has an accelerated growth forecast (out of developing economies) of 43%. The platform provides the customer access to vendors, giving them choices based on brand, price, and the time it takes to deliver goods from vendor to customer.

ShapShap, a platform that provides an on-demand delivery service has been easing the stress of Nigerians since its creation. This innovative platform provides solutions for shoppers to find their favourite products, order, and track deliveries till they get to their final destination.

However, Khalil’s passion for technology and his interest in finding solutions to problems in every sector of development keeps spurring him to look beyond what has been done in the world of Tech, to futuristic and proactive Tech solutions.

According to him, The CANs Park exists in the heart of Abuja, providing workspaces, or if you may, a breeding ground for technical and strategic consultation, and social innovation. At CANs.ng, tech individuals are connected to start-ups and Investors from all over Africa, nesting, developing, and providing opportunities for visionaries interested in tech as a perk of this tech hub.

When asked, Khalil stated, “I am confident that together, we can proffer more localized tech solutions to tackle some of the challenges we face as a country.”

For Khalil, progress doesn’t just end with the present but should encompass the future. It is this urge for impact and empowerment that sets Khalil, the founder and Chairman of West Africa’s first eco-friendly technological hub in Maitama, Abuja – The CANs, different from others.
