NOVATO UNIFIED TEACHERS AND STAFF RECOGNIZED FOR MODELING POSITIVE VALUES FOR STUDENTS TO EMULATE

July 02 23:16 2019

At Novato Unified School District, employees from a wide range of roles within the district provide excellent representations of what NUSD stands for. “Modeling the Way” is the NUSD employee recognition program that acknowledges some of the outstanding teachers and staff at Novato schools who are “modeling” at least one of the 6 C’s in the Graduate Profile — character, culturally competent, conscientious learner, critical thinker, communicator, and collaborator, and one of the five NUSD values — innovation, equity, caring, inclusion, and collaboration.

Of course, Novato Unified is filled with teachers and staff who embody these profile traits in their daily lives, and “Modeling the Way” recognizes when a particular member of the Novato community goes above and beyond in one or more of these areas. The goal of NUSD is ensure that every person within the community of the District is striving to model each of these traits and values. Most recently, Andrew Strawbridge and Gabriel Brand were recognized as Modeling the Way. Recipients are nominated by their co-workers, peers, parents or students.

Andrew Strawbridge

Andrew Strawbridge, a PE teacher at Hamilton School, is a great collaborator and has developed a sports program that ensures all students have an opportunity to develop sports skills and be included on the team. Over the past 3 years, Andrew has built teams that include soccer, basketball, wrestling, track and cross country. Andrew does a wonderful job of organizing these events but more importantly, he develops his students into strong athletes with strong sportsmanship attributes. Working with a team of coaches, referees, and volunteers, Andrew has narrowed the opportunity gap within the community.

Gabriel Brand

Gabriel Brand, an Instructional Assistant at Lynwood Elementary School, is a conscientious learner who is always looking for ways to improve himself. Gabriel works in Lynwood’s Dual Immersion Spanish/English program and always brings a solution to the table when he sees an issue or need. He is a model for the students as he works towards his own life goals by attending school. Gabriel engages with all students in a positive way and is a staple on campus, guiding students during class, on the playground, and in Lynwood’s after-school program.
