Anouar Association adopts United Nation’s Disability Inclusion Strategy with its Art workshop

December 02 04:00 2021

The Anouar Association for Development and Solidarity will organize an interactive art workshop for children with disabilities along with their normally developed peers in Ait Faska, Al Haouz Province, Marrakech, from 9 to 10 December 2021.

The art workshop that will run for two days is an effective approach for the accessibility, mainstreaming, and inclusivity of children with intellectual disabilities in activities. The event aims to teach the children to paint and draw murals and help them build their confidence and communication skills.

The art workshop is being organized in partnership with the respected painter and plastic artist, Ms. Amina Bedraoui Idrissi, whose artworks were exhibited during the Ibn Battuta International Festival in Tangier in 2017, in Paris, and in Saint Petersburg, Russia, in April 2020.

According to Mr. Mohamed Dekkak, President of Anouar Association, the inclusive workshop is the second of a series of many programs of the association dedicated to people with disabilities. The event is being organized in line with the United Nations’ Disability Inclusion Strategy (UNDIS) that was introduced by the UN’s Executive Committee, chaired by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in June 2019 through Decision 2018/20. Anouar Association is adopting the strategy as per UN’s mandate to all countries to enable and support the implementation of the strategy, the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and other international human rights instruments, the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, the Agenda for Humanity, and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.

“This technical workshop will be of great meaning since the participants are children with intellectual disabilities who will be joined by their peers. I believe that children can learn from one another despite their different cognitive conditions. Our society must eliminate the stigma and break the wall of discrimination to support these children’s growth and inclusion. Our association is committed to supporting children’s development and providing them with a sense of inclusivity. We cannot determine the maximum levels of individual development, but we must respect their conditions and functionality”, added by Mr. Mohamed Dekkak.

According to Ms. Amina Bedraoui Idrissi, she is honored to supervise the workshop and is thrilled to impart her skills, educate the children to create artworks, and instill in them the importance of interaction and cooperation. The occasion is dedicated for each individual so that he grows according to what his abilities and capabilities allow, which we find the society neglects.

The workshop is the association’s second step in including the people with disabilities to take part in their work. The association is open for people with disabilities and is pleased to work with them to participate in the programs and other endeavors. Anouar Association for Development and Solidarity will promote and protect the rights of people with disabilities and allow them to play a big part in the association. The members and volunteers will work with them, consider their inputs, and treat them fairly, especially the women.
