Revitalizing Underserved Communities and Providing A Career Path for Black Youth Through Digital Marketing.

SAN DIEGO, CA – On Monday, November 29, 2021, Sister Cities Project will be running the second cohort of its Digital Marketing Workforce Training Program called the (Eco)Agency. The (Eco)Agency is one part of an ecosystem of programming aimed at lifting communities of color through economic empowerment, racial equality and cultural understanding. That ecosystem includes job creation through the (Eco)Agency, small business growth through a private online community for Black women entrepreneurs called the (Eco)Hub and our affluent and underserved community partnership discussions called (Eco)Exchanges.

The SCP (Eco)Agency will provide Black youth ages 18 to 24 the opportunity to start a career in digital marketing through comprehensive training and hands-on learning experiences. For their first 90 days, these local youth will provide services for small businesses in Southeastern San Diego, one of the most underserved communities in San Diego County and for entrepreneurs in our network of Black women entrepreneurs cultivated in our Business Growth area of impact. Their final 90 days will be spent providing services in some of the most affluent communities in San Diego county, including Del Mar, Solana Beach, Carmel Valley and Encinitas through partnerships with the Chambers of Commerce in those areas. The training will be done through our digital partner 85SIXTY based in Solana Beach, internships will be paid through a partnership with the San Diego Workforce Partnership, the leader for innovative workforce solutions in San Diego County, and a psychological safety assessment given by We Connect the dots located in New York that has partnered with SCP to create a mutual expansion of the organizations programming in New York and California.

“The Sister Cities Project (Eco)Agency gives black youth access to the earning power of the digital economy. Research shows that without economic equity, there is no racial equality. You cannot decouple these issues.” says Sister Cities Project Founder Shawn McClondon.

The (Eco)Agency was partly made possible by contributions from SDG&E.

Sister Cities Project was an idea created by Shawn McClondon and supported by residents from Solana Beach 4 Equality, Encinitas 4 Equality and Del Mar pushing for greater diversity and racial equity in San Diego County and beyond after the George Floyd murder. “The Sister City Program” was born to partner affluent communities with underserved communities in San Diego County.
