Lawyer and experienced manager Vyshakhi Kashinath hopes to make a difference after founding two organizations amid the raging pandemic — one that seeks to empower women and children and another that aims to upscale the dining experience in Canada.
“It has always been one of my goals to give back to the community by leading the way in helping marginalized and underrepresented sectors on one hand while also redefining the standards in the restaurant market on the other,” says Vyshakhi.
Vyshakhi has founded the Women and Children Aid Organization (WCAO), which bats for a world where all women, children, and young people can survive and thrive.
WCAO is a grassroots federation working together to provide life-saving services in England, the United States, Canada, Australia and build a future where domestic abuse is not tolerated.
“We lead the charge in empowering survivors by keeping their voices at the heart of our work, working with and for women and children by listening to them and responding to their needs,” explains Vyshakhi.
WCAO’s banner programs include the Community Food Bank, where it takes donations from local businesses and use them to fight hunger.
“Food justice is an important part of community justice. Individuals can help us by connecting us with donors and with people in need,” she adds.
Vyshakhi was born and raised in India. She finished her bachelor’s and master’s in law in England and moved to Canada later on as part of work.
Apart from being a lawyer, Vyshakhi is also an experienced manager. She is a co-owner of a butcher-style steak house, The Medium Rare Carnivore Club, based in Canada.
The Medium Rare Carnivore Club is both a dine-in restaurant as well as a high-end butcher shop where customers can purchase its finest meats for home cooking.
