Extra Mile Day and Volunteerism Is Heart of America

Over 500 Mayors Declare “Extra Mile Day” and Celebrate “Go the Extra Mile” Message on November 1st.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – October 22, 2019 – Volunteers who go the extra mile in service and selfless contribution in order to make a difference in their local communities are being celebrated across America on Extra Mile Day. On November 1, mayors from all fifty states are making a declaration to celebrate the impact and difference-making contribution that volunteers provide.

In association with Extra Mile America, Extra Mile Day is a growing movement dedicated to highlighting the power of volunteerism in connection with the “go the extra mile” message. The day’s popularity continues to soar across the United States. Created in 2009 with 23 inaugural cities, over 525 mayors are expected to make the 2019 declaration.

Mayor Stan Booker has made the November 1 Extra Mile Day declaration in Lawton, Oklahoma. “Lawton is blessed to have so many outstanding individuals willing to go above and beyond in serving our city each day. Dedicated, involved citizens who choose to go the extra mile not only contribute to the successes of our community on a grand scale, but touch the hearts and minds of other community members to help inspire change on personal levels. This helps to create leaders, influence positive change and enhance the culture of our community.”

“Going the extra mile can happen in a thousand different ways, and it’s in going the extra mile and doing that little extra where difference-making change and positive results are created,” shares Shawn Anderson, the motivational author and visionary behind the day’s declaration.

Anderson continues, “Extra Mile Day, however, is more than one day during the year to recognize ‘go the extra mile’ heroes; it is a reminder that every day and every hour is a chance for each of us to do more, give more and add more value to create the positive change we seek. Extra Mile Day reminds us not to look at others and wonder what they are doing to make the world better, but instead, to look at the person in the mirror and ask, ‘How are you going the extra mile to make the world better?’”
