Cherrystone Auctions Sells The New Amsterdam Collection Of United States Stamps For Close To $7 Million On July 10, 2019

Cherrystone Auctions sold all the 220 lots in The New Amsterdam Collection of United States Stamps for nearly $7 million on July 10, 2019. The sale took almost four hours to complete with some top items fetching over $1 million each.

NEW YORK CITY, New York – Aug 13, 2019 – Cherrystone Auctions hosted a very successful sale of The New Amsterdam Collection of United States Stamps on July 10, 2019. The 220 featured lots brought in almost to $7 million.

Cherrystone Auctions hosted yet another very successful stamp sale on July 10, 2019. This sale featured The New Amsterdam Collection of United States Rarities and it had a total of 220 lots. The auction took place at the company’s New York galleries and it lasted a whole four hours. The New Amsterdam Collection of United States Stamps was accumulated over half a decade ago. The main purpose of this collection was to complete some missing spaces in the Scott National Postage Album. Most of the items in The New Amsterdam Collection of United States Stamps were acquired through Dumont Stamp Company in the 70s.

The New Amsterdam Collection of United States Stamps sale amassed nearly $7 million with many items fetching hundreds of thousands of dollars and even millions of dollars. The highlights of the sale included a 10¢ green (Washington), which fetched $1,150,000 and a 15¢ gray black (Lincoln), which fetched $1,610,000. The Lincoln stamp set a new record for a single United States stamp sold via auction. Other remarkable prices included a rare a 3¢ “B” Grill, which was sold for $661,250 and another rare 30¢ “A” Grill that cost $172,500. An 1869 30¢ Pictorial with Inverted Flags was auctioned for $287,500 and a 24¢ Inverted Jenny fetched $402,500. Estimated at $300,000, a rare 2¢ coil pair was sold for $805,000. All of these prices included Cherrystone Auctions’ 15% buyer’s premium.
