SOMAVAC assembles dream team in midst of Memphis skills shortage.

Memphis, TN – July 16, 2019 – SOMAVAC® Medical Solutions, Inc., a med tech company creating solutions to improve post-op care, announced today two key personnel changes as it prepares for commercialization of its flagship device the SOMAVAC® 100 Sustained Vacuum System.

SOMAVAC hired Phil Ryan as Vice President of Operations to focus on product development, quality management, vendors partnerships, and purchasing. Ryan brings over 20 years of experience in electromechanical medical device development from design to manufacturing operations. Prior to SOMAVAC, Ryan held executive roles at Olympus Corporation of America in Memphis, TN.

Joelle Goan has been named Vice President of Commercialization. Goan joined SOMAVAC as program manager earlier this year.  Prior to joining SOMAVAC, Goan was in upstream marketing developing and launching new products at Olympus as a senior product manager. She held leadership roles in sales and marketing at Hospira and Abbott Laboratories.

“We welcome Phil to the SOMAVAC team and are pleased to appoint Joelle to her new role. These personnel changes collectively allow us to better align ourselves with the commercial launch needs of the SOMAVAC® 100 Sustained Vacuum System,” said Dr. Esra Roan, co-founder and CEO of SOMAVAC Medical Solutions. “As we continue through this important time for the company, we will rely on the expertise of both Phil and Joelle to help push SOMAVAC toward its commercialization goals.”

The SOMAVAC® Sustained Vacuum System is a low-profile, user friendly, wearable medical device that applies sustained vacuum to a surgical site following large-flap forming surgeries to remove fluid effectively and may reduce the risk of seroma. It is designed to replace the legacy technology of using manual suction bulbs attached to surgical drains, which has seen little innovation or advancements since the bulbs’ conception in 1970’s.

The SOMAVAC® 100 is indicated for use in a range of surgeries which lead to large surgical flaps requiring drains, such as abdominal surgery, mastectomy, cosmetic surgery, hernia surgery, orthopedic procedures, etc.
