The Announcement

In January 2019, Wesleyan University proudly announced its lineup of inductees to the Wesleyan Baseball Wall of Fame. The announcement, made initially by way of the “Friends of Wesleyan Baseball Alumni Newsletter”, highlighted a number of outstanding athletes including former left-handed starting pitcher, David Vanech.

David’s Baseball Career

David started in 88 games throughout his athletic career, manning first base and hitting fourth in the lineup. During his time as a pitcher, he threw for 165 innings and for seven complete games. Highlights of Vanech’s baseball career included a number of exhilarating wins against Amherst and Williams, as well as playing a pivotal role in leading the Cardinals to the Little Three title in 2002.

In his senior year, Vanech displayed an impressive aptitude in athleticism and skill, going 3-1 with a 3.44 ERA while also batting .384. Post-graduation Vanech had the privilege of serving as an assistant coach for Wesleyan. David Vanech’s baseball profile can be viewed in it’s entirety on Wesleyan’s official athletics site.

Wall of Fame Ceremony

Last year’s Wall of Fame Ceremony, honoring and inducting those into the 2018 Hall of Fame, was a glaring success, with more than 100 people in attendance. Adding to the excitement, the inductees threw out the first pitch before the Cardinals game against Williams.
